Homemade
Homemade: Classic, made by you, special, meaningful
Today I am focusing on homemade. The picture above are homemade atlas stones. They don't look special to most people, but to a person who does CrossFit or any kind of strength work; we see this has homemade challenge. Each stone is made of concrete and weighs between 45lbs to 220lbs (or even more).
Back in Feb 2011, I first was introduced to these stones. I was in a CrossFit competition and had to clean to shoulder a 67# stone so many times and then carry it across the field for so many rounds. To clean the atlas stones, it takes technique, especially with heavier stones. I didn't have that technique and I just couldn't get it. I was getting beat by the WOD. This WOD was the first& only WOD I ever started crying during the WOD and then just gave up and walked away. My ego was shot and I hated those atlas stones.
It took me a few hours, but I came to realize that these were just a homemade challenge and I COULD overcome it!! I vowed to never let atlas stones conquer me again! The next day, 2nd day of competition, we had to WOD with them again. Before the event I had time to work with them and get down my technique... maybe not fast, but I could at least do them. I went on with a successful day and ended up getting a set within the next few weeks for us to have our own at CrossFit Greer.
Today, I look at atlas stones as just another day, another workout; Always working to move up to the next size stone.
What are your homemade challenges??
