Ash Wednesday
So, today is Ash Wednesday!! Ash Wednesday is the name given to the first day of the season of Lent... In the Bible, Jesus spends 40 days fasting in the desert where he was faced with temptation. Ash Wednesday signifys this 40 day period (not counting Sundays) of prayer, fasting and abstinice of something to focus on Christ.
On Ashe Wednesday, those who observe it will attend Mass and have the ashes marked on their forehead in the shape of a cross.
The ashes saying: Remember that thou art dust, and to dust thou shalt return. Genesis 3:19
And a cross for: Repent, and believe the Gospel. Mark 1:15
I didn't grow up observing Ash Wednesday, but I did grow up in Church and have a relationship with Christ and attend church reguarly. Over the years, through new friends, co-workers and relationships, I have grown more inticed by Ash Wednesday. I really agree we should fast reguarly and remove something from our lives to focus on Christ and set our sites on the true meaning of Easter. I have decided this year to give up something for Lent and plan on focusing more on Christ.
Do you observe lent & Ash Wednesday? What item or item have you given up?
